CVS Deals I Got

I wanted to go to CVS on Sunday because I wanted so many of the Only Sunday/Monday deals. Unfortunately it did not work out this way, but I still got some good stuff yesterday:

I started with $4 in ECBs (that I had had for a month because the deals hadn't been that great lately)
I spent $1.72 OOP.
I saved $30.65.
I now have $7.99 in ECBs.

I wanted to get the Post Trail Mix cereal (which would have been free) and I tried to find the small bottles of Nutragena sun care which would habe cost $3.98 (would have used ECBs) but I would have gotten $10 back in ECBs. I may keep looking for these little bottles if I get the opportunity, but have a feeling everybody beat me to it!

Still a pretty good week, and definitely under my $5 challenge (weekly spending limit at drugstores/Target combined). I may even make this amount lower next month!

How did you do this week? CVS or Walgreens for you? Or Rite Aid?

Update on Wgs Shopping Scenario

I made it to Wgs today. Went to the one that usually has more of a supply. I didn't do the best shopping I've ever done, and I didn't get everything I wrote about here (because they either didn't have it or it wasn't the price I thought it was going to be), but I still think I made out good, and still made out under my $5 challenge.

Transaction #1
  • Colgate Visible White toothpaste $4.49=$4.50RR
  • Skintimate Shave Gel $1.99=$1RR
  • Right Guard Deodorant Professional Strength $5.99=$5RR
  • Kraft Macaroni and Cheese .69 with in ad coupon (2/$3 regular)
Total before coupons:
$18.47

Coupons I used:
  • $1/1 Colgate (printed this one and the register didn't want to take it, but the cashier was really nice and he made it work somehow)
  • .75/1 Skintimate from the 4/26SS
  • $1/1 Right Guard from the 4/19SS
  • b3g1 FREE for Kraft (made sure he scanned this coupon BEFORE scanning the ad coupon so that it will take off the full $1.50 instead of just 69¢) This coupon also says that it will take off up to$1.30, so I wasn't sure what the store would actually take off.
  • .69 in ad Kraft Mac and Cheese (takes off the right amount for all 4, even though it says limit of 3 and it already took off the $1.50)
Total after coupons: $10.98
  • Pay with $8 RR from last week.
Final cost $2.98 + tax or $3.67

Transaction #2
  • Edge Shave Gel $1.99=$1RR
  • Right Guard Deodorant Professional Strength $5.99=$5RR
  • Binder Tab Dividers on clearance for $.64 and needed for filler item
Total before coupons:
$8.67

Coupons I used:
  • .75/1 Edge from 5/17 I think (now I can't remember)
  • $1/1 Right Guard from the 4/19SS
Total after coupons: $6.87
  • Pay with $6 RR from last week.
Final cost $.87 + tax or $1.30

Total Spent Today OOP: $4.97 ($.03 left to spare!)
Total RR used: $14
RR for next visit: $16.50

Not bad! How did you do?

Friday, May 1, 2009

Today is the day!

It's Friday.

It's May 1.

It's time to start working a little harder to save money. We like to set a "budget" but you see it in quotes because we do not follow it as closely as we would if it were capitalized and not in quotes. The months usually start off good, but things come up, we get invited out to eat, we get lazy, we "forget" that we had a "budget" to begin with. If it is not set in stone it is very easy to stray from, and this is how it has been for us, it's never come out of quotations.

But not today. Not this month.

And hopefully this will set a better standard for us so we will not just have one good month, but we will be able to make this our natural lifestyle.

I will be doing lots of cleaning this month. Cleaning up our budget. Cleaning up our house. Cleaning up our life. I am excited to get rid of more clutter, challenge myself to spend much less, and to just simplify life a little more.

Some of the things I will be doing this month and the people who will be helping me:

1. Planning a whole month of meals. We will not be eating out and I cannot plan on this once in a while. I usually do this by the week, but the month will be very fulfilling and will help me to watch for sales as meals are approaching. Yes, it will be challenging too! Once a Month Mom has been a great help and inspiration in this area.

2. I have been working on getting rid of some of the junk in our house as of late. So much clutter, so little space. To help stay motivated with this, I am going to join Simple Mom and her Spring Cleaning schedule over here.

3. I will be doing lots of evaluating of the things I buy, especially of my "wants" vs my "needs." It is so easy to find a "need" for everything. Maybe it is today or maybe not, but someday I might really need it! This could quite easily be the most challenging of these steps I am taking in the next month.

Little steps. Simple steps. But hopefully leading to leaps and bounds of change. Hopefully leading to the simple life I am striving to live.

Got any great ideas for this? Want to join me along the way? Leave a comment if you do.
